The Technics SL-DZ1200 - An Updated Classic for the Digital Era
The SL-DZ1200 uses the same Technics direct-drive motor that has made the 1200 Series the object of vinyl DJ reverence for three decades. With its high rotational precision and 1.3 lb-in. high torque, the DZ1200 gives you the same incredible platter control that you love in the SL-1200 Series. Even the controls -- including Play/Pause/Cue/Pitch control -- and the strobe illumination will be familiar to every DJ who honed their technique on the SL-1200 Series. Rugged aluminum diecast upper cabinet construction and large double spring insulator feet combine with a CD mechanism developed for the rigors of in-car use, to deliver outstanding vibration resistance that also reflects the Technics 1200 Series' tradition of reliability.
Technics SL-DZ1200 Key Features
- Classic Technics Direct-Drive Motor
- The Technics Direct-Drive system, which incorporates the platter as an actual component of the motor, was introduced with the SP-10 in 1969 as a way to eliminate the drag, inevitable breakage and slow start-up speeds associated with belt-driven players. With the reliable rotation, instant response and long life you have come to expect from Technics analog models, the SL-DZ1200 boasts the same quartz crystal controlled Direct-Drive that has been the choice of professional DJs for over thirty years.
- Traditional Vinyl Characteristics
- It's easy to adjust to the SL-DZ1200. With adjustable break and start-up speeds, a 10" platter, vinyl simulation effects and slip surface combined with its familiar look and feel, the SL-DZ1200 sounds and responds just like your analog decks.
- Big, Easy To Read Central Display: BPM, Remaining Time and Other Play Data
- The essential information is right here: remaining time, BPM, playback position and more. Play time gives you an accurate indication of playback progress so you don't have to rely on visual clues anymore. You can even change the angle of the display if you want to use the deck upright hip-hop style.
- Complete Cue Point Control
- After you find a cue point by moving the platter, you can store that point in memory for instant recall. At any time you can then make the deck return to that point and stand by. Then simply press Play to begin. This also lets you easily check to find the best timing for a mix.
- Cue Points are Ready When You Load a CD
- The SL-DZ1200 lets you find a cue point, save it and return to it at the touch of a button. The SL-DZ1200 can memorize 50 sets (more if stored on an SD memory card) of 10 cue points as individual "albums" to use with individual digital media such as CDs or SD memory cards. Each "album" also includes your settings for the 4 cue pads, loop points, auto cue and effects. So you'll have your cue points and other settings ready for instant access as soon as the disc or card is loaded. Then all you have to do is play -- without the hassle of searching for your cue points every time.
- Memory for Four Cue Points
- Four self-illuminating cue pads allow you to set, save and seamlessly cue from exactly the point of your choice. Store up to four cue points for instant and seamless one-touch cueing on the four cue pads.
- Add Original Samples to Your Mix
- Record special sounds and riffs in Sample Pad memory. Then drop them in at the touch of a button to build the mix and add your personal touch. In other words, you can actually "play" your pads like an instrument. Besides mixing your samples, you can also play them as single sounds or loop them. A handy editing function lets you adjust a sample's In point, Out point and volume.
- Loop any Phrase
- Capture a phrase from anywhere in a song -- intro, chorus, rhythm tracks, you name it -- and loop it by setting the In and Out points. Play your loop and extend a song's climax as long as you like. Smooth, seamless looping is easy with this advanced digital technology.
- SD Memory Card
- The SD memory card is a removable, reusable device about the size of a postage stamp, and is capable of holding hours of media. Using the SZ-CB8 SD Audio Recording Kit1, you can store your samples, scratches, breaks—even whole albums—and play an entire set using just a couple SD memory cards.
- Vibration Resistant Design
- A heavy, die cast aluminum body, rugged CD mechanism and double spring insulator feet provide exceptional vibration resistance.
- Pitch Lock
- Lock the Pitch and Change the Tempo! Because it's digital, you can speed up or slow down the tempo without changing instrument and vocal pitch. This gives you more flexibility to match up different songs that would have been difficult on an analog deck. So you can let your imagination run free and unleash your creativity.
- Digital Reverse for Play in Another Dimension
- Amaze the crowd with outrageous reverse playback effects. At the flip of a switch you can reverse platter rotation. This lets you perform precision reverse play for funky results that take you into a different dimension from the usual manual reverse. And you can adjust the precision to suit your needs -- use the "Instant Change" button to make the switch instant, or flip it off to drag, stop and spin-up the track.
- Free Wheel Like You're on an Analog Deck
- Just press the Free Wheel button and you can spin the platter freely, letting it slow down gradually. Or press it during play to sync to the platter rpms. In other words, you have the ability to play digital music with the same free wheel moves you use with an analog deck. This special feature gives you new performance flexibility with the SL-DZ1200, unavailable on conventional CD players that use a jog dial.
- Vinyl Effects Spice Up Digital Sound
- A built-in Vinyl Simulator Effect recreates that unique analog sound with digital audio sources, including CD-Audio, CDMP31, and SD-Audio. In other words, you can add analog spice for the same kind of frequency response that characterizes LPs. Think of the old-school ambience you can whip up for reggae, R&B and dance classics!
- Check Tempo at a Glance
- The red strobe and silver dots on the platter rim of an analog turntable give the DJ a feel for the speed setting that becomes intuitive over time. Now that same functionality is yours in a digital deck. The SL-DZ1200 has a built-in strobe to telegraph tempo changes. In fact, you can control the deck by touch, speeding it up or slowing it down just like you would vinyl. If you've got your scratch, spin and brake techniques down, you can play digital sources, your own digital data included, on the DZ1200 in professional style.
- Use the Platter to Control Effects
- You can manipulate the slip surface of the platter to create a phat sound and add awesome special effects or distortion. That's right! You don't need to touch any knobs or controls on the mixer or effects boxes. Just use your hand on the deck to perform those dynamic effects. It's almost like playing a musical instrument.
- Tempo -- Like the Pitch Slider on the SL-1200 Series, but Better
- The Range button offers a choice of four maximum variable ranges for the Tempo slider, from ±8 to ±50. You can return to normal pitch instantly by hitting the Reset button at any time. The slider itself will be familiar to every DJ who owns a Technics analog deck. So you can build on your expertise while expanding the scope of your talent.
- Brake with an Analog Feel
- Braking speed is adjustable so you can recreate the feel of an analog deck when you hit the Play/Pause key during play. Choose the braking time you want - anything from a gradual slow-down to a sudden stop.
- Add MP3 and AAC Files to the Club Mix
- CDs aren't the only thing you can play on the SL-DZ1200. This advanced deck also handles SD Memory Cards. So you can play a huge library of music in MP3 and AAC digital audio file formats that you have stored on SD memory cards by ripping with the SD-Jukebox software.
