Panasonic Portable DVD Players Feature Explanations:

1 - Multi-Format Recordable DVD Playback
In addition to playing favorite DVD movie discs, these portable DVD players can play back video recorded onto DVD-RAM discs. DVD-RAM is a recordable, rewritable DVD format, sanctioned by the DVD Forum, developed to fuse A/V and PC applications. DVD-RAM allows consumers to record high-quality MPEG-2 video onto DVD discs. The format offers fast data transmission, random access and rewritability up to 100,000 times. This features makes Panasonic PalmTheater DVD players the perfect companion to a Panasonic DVD-RAM Recorder.

These models have added DVD-RW (video format), DVD+R and DVD+RW playback for enhanced compatibility with personal computers and DVD recorders. With expanded multi-format playback capability, they let you enjoy all your DVDs, no matter which format you choose.

2 - HighMAT Compatible
High-Performance Media Access Technology (HighMAT), co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft, designed to significantly improve interoperability for digital media content between PCs* and popular electronic devices such as CD players, car stereos and DVD players. HighMAT is a digital-media standard that provides a dramatically improved method of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections on recordable discs such as CD-RW media.

People worldwide use an increasing variety of electronic devices to store, organize and access digital media. HighMAT delivers a simple, standardized approach that allows users to:

  • Create and manage personal collections of digital music, video and photography on a PC.
  • Move digital media files (using recordable media such as CD-R and CD-RW) between the PC and various playback devices such as CD and DVD players.
3 - Audio CD, CD-R and CD-RW Playback
These Panasonic portable DVD players can play CD-DA format audio CD-R and CD-RW. They may not be able to play some CD-R or CD-RW due to the condition of the recording.
4 - MP3 and WMA Playback
For contents recorded on CD-R/RW media from CDs for your personal use. Plays back MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) and Windows Media (.WMA) Internet audio formats. Playability may vary depending on contents and discs.
5 - JPEG Still Image Playback
Display a list of JPEG digital images as photos recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW, or do a slide show.
6 - DivX Playback
DivX Video On Demand is a digital video delivery service that lets you rent or purchase DivX movies from any DivX licensed VOD partner. These movies are encoded in the DivX format to offer you superior quality video and the fastest download times.
7 - 8.5-inch Widescreen Freestyle LCD Display
Panasonic portable DVD players are equipped with built-in widescreen LCD monitors for clear DVD images on the go. The LCD even allows you to watch movies in the standard 16:9 widescreen format or conventional 4:3 formats such as letterbox and pan-and-scan. The uniquely designed Freestyle LCD Display on all these units can be manually adjusted to a variety of different angles that can accommodate a wide range of viewing positions.
8 - Battery Pack Included
The included rechargeable battery neatly fits in the main unit, so the thin, stylish body of Panasonic portable DVD players remains intact when using the battery.

* When Brightness is set to its lowest level. Viewing time may be shorter depending on conditions.

9 - Included Car DC Adaptor
Keep the kids entertained and the "are we there yets" to a minimum on that long drive to Grandma's house or on when you're headed to the beach. Both models include a Car DC Adaptor that plugs into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket or 12-volt powerpoint.
10 - 108MHz 12-Bit Video Digital-to-Analog Converter
A 108MHz 12-bit video D/A converter features an extremely high sampling frequency of 108MHz, with 16x oversampling of the DVD video signal, resulting in the most finely detailed D/A conversion.
11 - Cinema Mode
The Cinema Mode feature combines brightness control with picture noise canceling to give you a better picture under certain viewing conditions. It lessens the glare typical of direct-view TV screens. The result is luminance and color that is cinema-like and a picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. Also, this feature improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting the picture contrast. It even helps to suppress color smearing as well.
12 - MPEG Digital Noise Reduction (MPEG/3D)
During Playback, advanced 3D-DNR circuitry effectively and selectively removes only noise components from the signal. The result is stunningly clear image reproduction.
13 - Built-in 2-Channel dts and Dolby Digital Decoders
When you play DVD movies encoded with 2-channel DTS® or Dolby Digital® soundtracks, the built-in decoders process the audio information without the need for an external decoder, enabling Advanced Virtual Surround Sound and Headphone V.S.S. effects.
14 - Advanced Virtual Surround Sound
Even without an elaborate home theater system, you can still enjoy the thrilling sounds of the movies thanks to Advanced Virtual Surround Sound. This Panasonic technology creates the surround sound effect by simulating surround-channel sounds using only two front speakers!*

* Works with Dolby Digital® 2-channel and 5.1-channel discs only.

15 - Headphone V.S.S. (Virtual Surround Sound)
When listening to a Dolby Digital-encoded disc through headphones, simply choose the Headphone V.S.S. feature to enjoy the wide open effect of surround sound.
16 - Dialogue Enhancer
Most of the movie dialogue recorded in surround sound formats (either Dolby Digital®, DTS® or Dolby Pro Logic®) is heard through the center channel speaker. At times, dialogue can be overwhelmed by particularly loud sounds emanating from the other speakers in your surround sound system. The dialogue enhancer increases the center channel volume (relative to other channels), making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand.
17 - H.Bass (Harmonized Bass) Sound
This function improves acoustic characteristics in such a way that you can perceive ultra-low bass sounds, making movies and music come alive with incredible power and depth. H.Bass outputs super-heavy bass tones to deliver the effect intended by the film's director.
18 - Hi-Speed Smooth Motion Scan
This feature provides crystal clear scan quality in five speeds, ranging from slow motion to high speed, in both forward and reverse. At the highest setting, you can search at an incredible 200 times the normal speed in order to rapidly locate desired points on a disc.
