The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V features an Accutune high-precision analog/digital tuner for recording and viewing digital broadcasts without a set top box. The built-in Digital Tuner also allows the user to record one digital broadcast program while watching a second program. Other features include 1080p up-conversion to accommodate the growing trend to 1080p displays, Viera Link™ HDAVI control to provide easy one remote operation of Viera Link equipped High Definition components, super multi-format recording and playback capability, DivX playback and an SD Card slot for storing, viewing and copying JPEG formatted still photos. 1080p digital video up-conversion produces virtual HD images from standard-definition sources. The DMR-EZ48V also makes it very easy to record from DV camcorders via a DVI.
The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V is a dual deck DVD video recorder/VHS recorder, combining the features and benefits of the two technologies. One of the major uses of DVD recorders is the transfer of VHS tapes to the more durable, higher picture quality DVD format. With that in mind, Panasonic offers this dual deck unit, giving users the ability to easily dub their home movies and recorded VHS tapes onto either a DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc, and from a DVD disc back to a VHS tape. The DMR-EZ48V also includes one touch dubbing. The user also has the option of watching VHS tapes or DVDs on a space saving combination product.
The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD Recorder offers all the benefits of the DVD-RAM format, like simultaneous recording and playback, random access, Chasing Playback, on-disc editing, and multi-format data compatibility that lets you record TV programs and still pictures. Now, with expanded multi-format recording and playback capability, the DMR-EZ48V also lets you enjoy all your DVDs, no matter which format you choose. Specifically, it can record to and play back DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs. It can also play back many more disc formats, including: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R (dual layer), DVD+R (dual layer), CD, CD-DA, and CD-R/RW(including MP3, JPEG, and DivX files).
Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK Key Features
- Accutune Digital/Analog Tuner*
- The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD recorder features an Accutune high-precision analog/digital tuner for recording and viewing digital broadcasts without a set-top box. The built-in Digital Tuner will also allow the user to record one digital broadcast program while watching a second program and to record digital content in a secondary room where they might not have a set-top box. Accutune Digital Tuner future-proofs analog television owners from any trauma associated with FCC mandates for the termination of analog broadcasting. No matter where in the country they live, whether the transition to digital happens early or right on the February 2009 deadline, owners of Panasonic 2007 DVD recorders will be able to go on watching and recording all their favorite programs without investing in a new TV or trying to find a suitable converter for their old one.
- DivX Playback*
- DivX Video On Demand is a digital video delivery service that lets you rent or purchase DivX movies from any DivX licensed VOD partner. These movies are encoded in the DivX format to offer you superior quality video and the fastest download times.

- High Definition (1080p) Up-Conversion with HDMI
- When connected to an HDMI-compatible TV via an HDMI cable, this DVD recorder can up-convert the DVD content that you're watching to 1080p resolution so you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality imagery in full high definition.
- SD/SDHC Card Slot and USB terminal With Photo Storage and JPEG Viewer
- The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V DVD is equipped with an SD Memory Card slot and USB terminal, which makes it easy to view photos from your digital camera. Just slip the SD card into the slot or use the cable to connect the camera to the USB terminal, and you're ready to enjoy a spectacular big-screen slideshow with family and friends. You can even listen to music recorded onto a USB device while viewing your photos.
- Viera Link™ HDAVI Control
- Connect your Panasonic DVD recorder to your Viera flat-panel HDTV via an HDMI cable, and the TV channel setting information is automatically downloaded to the recorder. Once the Auto Preset Download is complete, the DVD recorder will keep whichever TV channel you're watching as its receiving channel. This means you can record the program you're watching by just pressing the Record button on the Viera remote. With VieraLink™, you don't have to worry about setting the recorder to the right channel every time you want to record something.
- Multi-Format Recording and Playback
- Incredibly versatile and format friendly, this DVD recorder can record to and play back just about any DVD you can throw at it. Specifically, it can record to and play back DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs. It can also play back many more disc formats, including: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R (dual layer), DVD+R (dual layer), CD, CD-DA, and CD-R/RW (including MP3, JPEG, and DivX files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need.
The ultimate DVD Recorder, a DVD-RAM recorder offers multi-format data compatibility that lets you record TV programs, still pictures and MPEG4 images. And in addition to superb DVD-RAM recording/playback, you're ready to enjoy DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW recording/playback, and improved compatibility with DVD Players and PCs for a trouble-free, secure recording environment. Naturally, playback of all DVD formats is also possible, so you don't have to worry about whether your DIGA can play back everything in your current video library What's more, a DIGA lets you take advantage of handy entertainment possibilities.
- DV Input With DV Auto Recording and Automatic Playlist Creation
- The IEEE 1394 DV input terminal allows you to connect a compatible digital camcorder to the DVD recorder and transfer your home movies onto a DVD-RAM/ DVD-R disc. To make it easier to navigate through the digital camcorder recordings that you transferred to the DVD-RAM/DVD-R disc, the DV Auto Record feature automatically generates a playlist for these transferred recordings by creating a new chapter for every instance of stop or pause used in the original recording. Once the playlist has been created, you can easily change the order and duration of the chapters, create new ones, and delete the ones you don't want using the on-screen menu.
- Virtual Multi Encode System
- Improved horizontal resolution in LP (4-hour) recording mode renders images twice as sharp as previous years' models, delivering up to 500 lines. The Virtual Multi Encode System enables LP mode recording with the same 500 lines (DI) of horizontal resolution as that in the SP and XP modes. This is double the horizontal resolution compared to the 250 lines (1/2 DI) of conventional LP mode recording. Thanks to this, you can enjoy viewing extended recordings -- 4 hours for single-sided DVD-RAM/R; / 8 hours for double-sided DVD-RAM -- with exceptionally detailed images and twice the picture quality of previous models. The Virtual Multi Encode System achieves this by virtually encoding multiple aspects of a scene, such as detail and movement, while selecting the encoding system that assures optimum picture quality.
- 16-Hour Audio/Video Recording to DVD-RAM Discs
- This unique recorder allows you to digitally record high-quality, MPEG2 video on DVD-RAM or DVD-R media. The DMR-EZ48VK is engineered to take full advantage of the DVD-RAM format's capabilities, such as simultaneous playback and recording. DVD-RAM provides a single format for computer and video-based applications. With its vast storage capacity, incredible speed, memory, exceptional picture and sound quality, and writing/erasing/rewriting capability, DVD-RAM is highly adaptive to the expanding digital media environment.
The DMR-EZ48VK features Extended Recording Time. In EP mode, it can record up to 8 hours on a single-sided 4.7GB DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc, and up to 16 hours on a double-sided 9.4GB DVD-RAM disc!
- IP Conversion Diagonal Processing
- A function that automatically detects diagonal lines in motion images and converts them to sharp lines.
- Built-in 4-Head Hi-Fi VHS VCR
- By dedicating two heads for recording and playback in the SP speed and two heads for SLP, picture quality is improved in both speeds. Added benefits are noiseless field still, double-fine slow, double-speed playback and high-speed OmniSearch. VHS Hi-Fi Stereo Sound permits true, high-fidelity stereo sound with a dynamic range of more than 90 dB.
- One-Touch 2 Way Transfer DVD-VHS
- Simply press a button and transfer material from a VHS tape to a DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc or vice versa. This means you can easily record your entire video library to DVD for a collection that takes up far less space. During tape-to-DVD transfer, there's also a handy function that reads recording start (VISS) signals on the tape and automatically creates a program list on the DVD-RAM disc.
- VHS Repeat Play, x500 Fast Rewind
- Direct Navigator
- Find desired programs fast. Just press the Direct Navigator button to display thumbnails of all the programs on a disc. Then select the one you want and press ENTER. It's that easy.
- Time Slip™ Playback Functions
- Chasing Playback -- This innovative feature lets you view a program that you're currently recording from any point that's already been recorded, while continuing to record the live program in progress. So, you no longer have to wait for the entire program to be recorded before watching it from beginning to end.
- Simultaneous Recording and Playback -- Because data transfer is at a super-fast rate of 22.16Mbps, simultaneous recording and playback are possible with the DMR-EZ48VK. So, you can record a live TV program while watching any other program that's been previously recorded on the same disc!
- Time Slip Button -- Just press the Time Slip button once during recording to start playing back the scene recorded 30 seconds earlier. You can also use the cursor keys to return to any point from 1 to 360 minutes earlier.
- Selectable Recording Modes
- You can set the DMR-EZ48VK to a variety of recording modes, each depending on average bit rate. EP mode yields the most recording time, LP and SP mode provide less recording time with higher quality recording, and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording.

- Flexible Recording
- In addition, the FR (flexible recording) mode determines the most appropriate bit rate to fit a user-specified time slot for timer recording. Flexible Recording starts before the recording commences, by determining the recording time and the disc's available storage space automatically, so you don't have to worry about you recordings being interrupted.
- CD-R/RW, MP3 Playback
- You can enjoy listening to CDs that you make, since Panasonic DVD recorders enable playback of CD-R and CD-RW discs. They can also play MP3 files recorded onto CD-R/RW formatted discs. Use the Audio Navigation Menu to view and quickly search these MP3 files on screen.
- One-Touch Record and Play
- The One-Touch Record feature seeks out empty space on a disc before it begins recording, eliminating the possibility of accidentally recording over a previously-recorded program. With the One-Touch Play feature, blank portions of the disc are automatically skipped, saving you the need to manually search for the desired program.
- Play List Function; Easy Video Editing
- Lets the user perform non-linear video editing and create custom play lists of favorite scenes on a disc. The user can mark the cut-in and cut-out points for up to 999 desired scenes. These are displayed as thumbnail images on-screen, allowing the user to create a playlist. Multiple playlists (up to 99) can be stored in memory, so the same disc can be used to create up to 99 different scenarios. This function is also convenient for jumping directly to particular scenes. Because the order of scenes can be changed at will, and unwanted scenes can be cut, the user can perform simple editing of home video recordings or create original personal "programs" such as sports event highlights.
- Progressive Scanning Output for Outstanding Reproduction (Playback)
- Progressive scanning doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal (from 480i to 480p) by scanning all 525 lines in 1/60 of a second for each pass. The higher-density video signal creates film-like DVD images extraordinarily close to the way they originally appeared in the cinema - with rich detail, extraordinary depth of field, and precise color reproduction. With the rising popularity of high definition televisions and their ability to accept and reproduce a progressive scan DVD picture, Panasonic's line of DVD progressive players are positioned to take full advantage of this growing format.
- Rapid Random Access Recording and Playback
- Say goodbye to the rewind/fast-forward shuffle. Unlike videotapes, DVD-RAM discs let you jump directly to any spot on a disc and begin playback or recording right away. Even if there is no sequential area of empty space available, the DMR-EZ48VK DVD Video Recorder can record data on the available space throughout the rest of the disc. There's no more wasted time finding a place to start recording, or the problem of accidentally recording over desired material.
- Advanced MPEG2 Encoding Using Real-Time VBR (Variable Bit Rate) Technology
- Panasonic has combined two encoding technologies -- Real time VBR and Visibility Modulation Technology -- to provide MPEG2 recording with superb picture quality. Here's how it works: Real Time VBR adjusts the bit rate according to video signal complexity, in order to optimize the compression ratio. At the same time, Visibility Modulation Technology reduces compression for the most noticeable parts of each signal while it filters out unimportant data to raise compression in other areas. This combination helps assure incredible picture quality for your preferred DVD-RAM recording mode.
- Bilingual Recording (DVD-RAM Only)
- With the main and sub audio channels of sound multiplex broadcasting programs can be recorded.
- QuickView (x1.3)
- Panasonic DVD Recorders are able to play back at 1.3 times the normal speed*, complete with sound, so you can quickly check the contents of a recorded program when you don't have time to watch it at normal speed. This feature can even be used during Chasing Playback.**
- Create Your Own DVD With Thumbnails
- When you record programs onto a DVD-R disc, and then finalize and load the disc, both the title and a thumbnail image from each program are displayed. A quick look is all you'll need to see the disc's contents. You can even choose which scene from each program is displayed as a thumbnail.
- Optical Digital Output for dts® and Dolby Digital® Decoders
- Offering incredible digital surround sound, dts (Digital Theater Sound) is the sound system of choice for many movie theaters. These Panasonic DVD players are equipped with dts digital out. When connected to an optional dts decoder, you can enjoy the amazing 5.1 channel digital surround sound offered by dts encoded discs on your DVD player.
- Switchable (480P/480I) Component Video Out
- A picture-enhancing advancement in DVD-Video technology. It keeps the black and white, red, and blue signals of the video image intact (and separate) during transmission, to maintain incredibly high picture quality. Thanks to component video out, the DMR-EZ48VK produces images with higher resolution and more accurate colors than conventional DVD-Video players.
- Dolby Digital® (Dolby AC-3) 2-Channel Audio Recording
- A 20-bit AD Converter and an original Panasonic LSI chip enable Dolby Digital 2-channel recording for a new level of audio quality. Improves sound quality during transfer of images from video tapes to the DVD-RAM disk.
- Smart Wheel Remote Control
- The Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK features a Smart Wheel user-friendly remote control to quickly find recorded programs and start playback faster than ever (200x quick search and fast-forward smooth search.)
