The Panasonic DMR-EZ48V features an Accutune high-precision analog/digital tuner for recording and viewing digital broadcasts without a set top box. DV Input With DV Auto Recording and Automatic Playlist Creation

• Time Slip Button -- Just press the Time Slip button once during recording to start playing back the scene recorded 30 seconds earlier. You can also use the cursor keys to return to any point from 1 to 360 minutes earlier.

Selectable Recording Modes

You can set the DMR-EZ48VK to a variety of recording modes, each depending on average bit rate. EP mode yields the most recording time, LP and SP mode provide less recording time with higher quality recording, and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording.

* In EP mode you can select either 6 hours or 8 hours of recording. The sound quality in 6-hour EP mode is higher quality than in 8-hour EP mode.

Flexible Recording

In addition, the FR (flexible recording) mode determines the most appropriate bit rate to fit a user-specified time slot for timer recording. Flexible Recording starts before the recording commences, by determining the recording time and the disc's available storage space automatically, so you don't have to worry about you recordings being interrupted.

Panasonic has combined two encoding technologies -- Real time VBR and Visibility Modulation Technology -- to provide MPEG2 recording with superb picture quality. Here's how it works: Real Time VBR adjusts the bit rate according to video signal complexity, in order to optimize the compression ratio. At the same time, Visibility Modulation Technology reduces compression for the most noticeable parts of each signal while it filters out unimportant data to raise compression in other areas.
