Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100K

The compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 features 12.2 Megapixel resolution with a 28mm wide-angle zoom (35mm equivalent). The newly developed and exclusive 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens features 3.6x optical zoom, f/2.8 brightness, 1/1.72-inch large CCD and Intelligent Image Stabilization with Mega O.I.S. and Intelligent ISO Control. The Lumix DMC-FX100 is also equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD screen, and its slim lightweight design makes it extremely portable and stylish.

Intelligent Image Stabilization incorporates the industry's most advanced countermeasures against blurring. This system comprises two features -- MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) and Intelligent ISO Control. Together these features make it easy to capture beautiful photos by compensating for the effects of hand-shake and image movement, making it possible to take clear, crisp photos anytime, in any mode.

The DMC-FX100 also introduces a more powerful flash with reach up to 16 meters, high-speed burst shooting, which allows consecutive shooting at a lightning-fast eight shots per second* and a new high sensitivity mode in which ISO 6400 recording is realized*. Furthering Panasonic's commitment to Living in High Definition, the DMC-FX100 can also record 1920 x 1080 high-definition still pictures and 1280 x 720 at 15 frames per second motion pictures, both perfect for viewing on 16:9 High Definition Plasmas.

* In 2-megapixel(4:3), 2.5-megapixel(3:2), 2-megapixel(16:9) recording.

Panasonic DMC-FX100 12.2-megapixel Lumix
1/1.72" 12.2 Megapixel CCD With Primary Color Filter
The DMC-FX100 incorporates large 1/1.72-inch CCD with 12.2 megapixels of rich recording resolution. This super-high resolution is possible because sufficient light-receiving area is allocated to each pixel, thus preventing noise that would otherwise be generated by a smaller pixel area. Images seen with the FX100's Leica DC lens -- a lens superior in quality and performance to those found in other compact cameras -- are rendered with the incredibly rich detail and gradation that only 12.2-megapixel resolution can achieve.

Delicate flower petals, subtle skin textures, the changing hues of sunset -- the FX100 captures the nuances of images like these with breathtaking clarity and detail. The 12.2-megapixel resolution also allows images to be printed up to A2 size with spectacular results. For example, you can make life-size prints of a baby or the upper half of an adult's body. Similarly, the high resolution lets you trim an image -- framing only the part you like -- and then magnify it and still get outstanding detail and resolution. The DMC-FX100's Primary Color Filter uses the primary colors (red, green and blue) to ensure the correct extraction of color information from the CCD in order to create vivid, rich color images.

Wide-Angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens
With the DMC-FX100, Panasonic has packaged a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens with f/2.8 brightness and a 3.6x optical zoom plus a 12.2-megapixel CCD into a body that is slim, stylish and conveniently compact. Comprising seven elements in six groups, including an EA (extra-high refractive index aspherical) lens and four lenses with five aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance. Spanning all the way from 28mm to 100mm (35mm equivalent), this lens lets you capture everything from sweeping landscapes to shots with deep rows of skyscrapers. Compared with conventional 35mm lens, the DMC-FX100's wide 28mm zoom lens makes it easier to capture an indoor group photo or architectures and sceneries with dynamic width and rich perspective.
3.6x Optical/4x Digital/14.3x Combined Zoom
This Panasonic Lumix digital camera is equipped with a 3.6x optical zoom, capable of producing close-ups with amazing detail. The camera's 3.6x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom* may be used together to achieve up to 14.3x zoom power.

* As digital zoom increases, resolution significantly decreases.

Up to 7x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FX100's 3.6x optical zoom combines with the large, 1/2.5" diagonal 12.2-megapixel CCD to give you enormous expressive power. The Extra Optical Zoom, which minimizes the image degradation that normally occurs with digital zooming, gives you up to 7x power in 3-megapixel photos.
MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer
Panasonic's advanced MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) enhances the camera's telephoto zoom capabilities, helping to deliver sharp, vivid images even when taking handheld telephoto shots or shooting in low light. The DMC-FX100 has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. Unlike digital image stabilization systems, this optical system provides precise compensation with no degradation in image quality. You won't even notice it working -- all you'll see are the outstanding results!
Panasonic DMC-FX100 Lumix 2.5-inch LCD
High-Resolution 2.5-inch Power LCD Monitor
The DMC-FX100 incorporates a large, easy-to-see 2.5-inch diagonal LCD for comfortable viewing while both monitoring shots and playing back the results. This high-quality, 207,000-pixel display makes it easy to see your subject. The pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD automatically increases the brightness level of the live image on the LCD, which greatly facilitates shooting in low light situations. High Angle Mode makes the display extremely easy to view from angles, for example, when holding the camera up high to take pictures over a crowd and can be accessed easily by using a dedicated button. With the help of the Power LCD function, which boosts the backlighting of the LCD by 40%, even shooting in bright outdoors situations is not a problem.
Venus Engine III™ LSI
The DMC-FX100 adopts the Venus Engine III to realize high sensitivity recording at max. ISO 1600 at full resolution. The noise reduction system is greatly improved by removing noise at the processing stages in series. First, critical noise is roughly undraped and the chromatic noise and the luminance noise are separated to respectively go through the supplemental noise reduction process so that the remaining noise is appropriately minimized. In addition, chromatic aberration is also reduced so beautiful images are assured even in telephoto shooting. The Venus Engine III also supports a new High Sensitivity mode that lets the DMC-FX100 record at a setting of up to ISO 6400 in 3-megapixel mode -- sensitive enough to capture subjects in near-total darkness without using a flash.

The Venus Engine III is an advanced multi-task image-processing engine that supports a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as 0.009 second and the shutter interval as short as 0.9 sec* -- outstanding for a camera recording at 12.2-megapixel resolution. The camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.

Despite the significantly increased performance of the camera, the Venus Engine III consumes only 80% of the power utilized by the Venus Engine II and is able to achieve a longer battery life of approximately 320 pictures** on a single charge.

* Not including the time for AF.
** Based on CIPA standard.

Intelligent ISO Control (IIC)
Thanks to Intelligent ISO Control, the camera can determine whether or not the subject is moving. If it is moving, Intelligent ISO Control changes the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed accordingly. You get clear, beautiful shots with no motion blur even when photographing kids who won't stay still. If the subject is not moving, the ISO sensitivity is lowered to capture beautiful, natural-looking images.
High-Definition (1280 x 720, 15 fps) Motion Picture Recording with Audio
Using the QuickTime® Motion JPEG format, the DMC-FX100 can record motion images in high-definition (1280 x 720 pixels at 15 fps). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion image recording even in low-light settings. When viewing the results, you will be suitably impressed by displaying 16:9 motion images on a large-screen TV. Stunning full-size movies can also be recorded in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30/10 fps) or standard motion images in VGA (640 x 480 pixels at 30/10 fps).

In Motion Picture mode, the length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SD / SDHC Memory Card (up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion picture recording).
Mode Dial and Mode Position Display
As you operate the dial, large animated icons are displayed. The list format makes it easy to find the mode you want with the mode dial. It also enables a sleek camera design because the dial doesn't have to protrude from the body. Choose Simple Mode and let the camera take care of everything, use Playback Mode to view or process the shots you've taken, or select Direct Printing Mode for direct connection to a printer. This single, easy-to-understand mode dial lets you easily switch between shooting, viewing, and printing.
  • Normal Picture Mode (Program AE): The camera automatically sets the aperture and shutter speed according to the subject's brightness. You can adjust the white balance, ISO sensitivity, and other settings to make your photos look their very best.
  • Simple Mode: All settings are made automatically. In this mode, even novices can take beautiful photographs by simply pressing the shutter button.
  • Macro Mode: Enjoy dynamic close-ups. You can focus on subjects as close as about 2 inches (5 cm) from the lens.
  • Motion Picture Mode: QuickTime™ Motion JPEG, complete with audio.
  • Playback Mode: Choose Playback Mode to view or process the shots you've taken.
  • Direct Printing Mode: Lets you connect directly to a printer without having to use a PC.
  • Intelligent ISO Mode: Detects any movement and automatically raises both the ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly, preventing motion blur. If the subject is still, the camera shoots at a low ISO setting, and you get beautiful, natural-looking images.
Scene Modes to Cover A Wide Variety of Shots
Versatile Scene Modes are another great Lumix feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to find. Choose the new High Sensitivity and Hi-speed Burst modes as well as modes like Sunset, Scenery and Night Portrait, from a total of 20 scene modes in all to ensure beautiful results from any situation and any subject. Animated moving icons help you to make selections and set parameters, so anyone can take beautiful pictures.
  • Portrait Mode: This gives the background a soft focus while capturing the subject clearly and sharply.
  • Soft Skin Mode: The camera detects the face or skin area to achieve a smoother appearance of the skin than portrait mode.
  • Scenery Mode: Capture sweeping vistas in sharp focus.
  • Sports Mode: Uses a high shutter speed to catch moving subjects.
  • Night Portrait Mode: The MEGA O.I.S. minimizes hand motion at slow shutter speeds, to capture people and night landscapes clearly and beautifully.
  • Night Scenery Mode: This mode allows you to record the nightscape vividly by reducing the shutter speed. The flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF.
  • Self-portrait Mode: This mode makes it easy for you to take pictures of yourself.
  • Food Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc.
  • Party Mode: Select this mode when you want to take pictures at a wedding reception, indoor party etc. By using the flash and slowing down the shutter speed, both people and the background can be recorded with a brightness close to real life.
  • Candle light Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures with a candle-lit atmosphere. You can take successful pictures without using the flash.
  • Fireworks Mode: his mode allows you to take beautiful pictures of fireworks exploding in the night sky.
  • Starry Sky Mode: By making the shutter speed slower, this mode allows you to take vivid pictures of a starry sky or a dark subject that you could not take in [NIGHT SCENERY].
  • Beach Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures on a beach. It prevents under exposure of the subject due to strong sunlight.
  • Snow Mode: This mode will adjust the white balance and the exposure to show the snow as white as possible.
  • Aerial Photo Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures through an airplane window.
  • Baby1 and Baby2 Modes: This mode takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When the flash is used, the light from it is weaker than usual. You can set the birthdays of two babies by using [BABY1] and [BABY2]. The baby's age can be displayed when playing back pictures. The age can also be printed on each picture by using the included software.
  • High Sensitivity Mode: Select this mode for high-sensitivity processing. You can take pictures at ISO 6400 sensitivity in 3-megapixel mode.
  • Pet Mode
  • Sunset Mode
  • Hi-Speed Burst: The DMC-FX100 can fire off up to 8 frames per second (2-megapixel 4:3, 2.5-megapixel 3:2, 2-megapixel 16:9 recording) in Hi-speed Burst mode. This is great for capturing fast-moving sports or racing scenes. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.
High-Speed AF
Choose from five focus methods to match the shooting conditions of your subject. In 1-point high-speed AF, autofocus time has been dramatically reduced (compared with normal speed focusing) to achieve outstanding focusing. Although screen-freeze in high-speed AF is now minimized, you can select 1-point AF mode to totally eliminate it when you are focusing on a fast-moving subject. Spot AF keys the focus to a small area within the frame. 9-point AF and 3-point high-speed AF prevent the system from mistakenly focusing on the area between two subjects in a vertical composition. Plus, the AF Assist Lamp helps when focusing in low lighting.
Unlimited Consecutive Shooting
Allows unlimited consecutive shooting* up to the capacity of the SD Memory Card. The focus and exposure are fixed at the first frame.

* The speed of the consecutive shooting varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
Mega Burst™ Imaging
Just keep the shutter button pressed to fire off consecutive shots (2 frames per second with full resolution)* of a moving subject or a person's changing facial expression. Then save only the best ones. With a digital camera, you can just delete any shots you don't want.

* Max. 5 images in Standard mode/3 images in Fine mode.
27MB Built-In Memory
Take photos even when you don't have an SD/SDHC Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to 27 MB of image data, which you can later copy to an SD/SDHC Memory Card or PC. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.
SD/SDHC Memory Card Compatibilty
Function Button
The Function Button gives you shortcuts to frequently used menu settings. When shooting, this single button lets you turn MEGA O.I.S. on/off, consecutive shooting on/off, make white balance adjustments, set the ISO sensitivity and image size, and select the compression format, while you continue to view your subject on the LCD. During playback, this button becomes the Trash button.
Real-Time Histograms
The DMC-FX100's histogram feature functions like a digital light meter, providing a graphic representation of the luminance level of the pixels composing an image. By using the histogram, users can exercise more precise exposure control for quality photos. The histogram can be displayed on the unit's large, 3-inch LCD screen while an image is being recorded and also after a shot has been taken.
Still Image Recording with Audio
You can take regular still pictures and add five seconds of audio to bring them to life. This way you can hear the opening notes of a band recital with an accompanying photo when you play it back on your computer.
