Lumix Digital Cameras Feature Explanations:
- 1 - Leica Vario-Elmarit Lens
- Leica camera AG is a camera and lens maker lauded by photographers around the world. One of Leica's most popular lenses, the Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens, is now featured in select Panasonic Lumix cameras, bringing Leica's advanced optical technology to the world of digital photography. Thanks to Leica lenses, these Lumix cameras can take digital photos that have the same emotional warmth, impact and subtlety as photographs shot on film.
- Wide-Angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens with 18x Optical Zoom Range - The DMC-FZ28 features a compact lens system featuring a 28mm-to-504mm (35mm equivalent) optical 18x zoom with eleven elements in eight groups, including two ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses and three aspherical lenses, including a dual-sided aspherical meniscus lens. The 28mm wide-angle (35mm equivalent) setting lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances. For macro shots, the wide-angle setting lets you shoot all the way down to less than an inch from your subject, and the telephoto setting can be used as close as 3.3 feet from your subject.
- Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 10x Optical Zoom (DMC-TZ5, DMC-TZ4) - Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting, and pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, this camera combines this wide ranging lens with a handy, compact body.
- Leica DC Vario-Summicron DMC-LZ3 - Featuring 8 lens elements in 6 groups including 4 aspherical lenses, the Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens offers a large aperture of F2.0 at 24 mm wide angle that is very helpful when shooting at higher shutter speeds in low-lit situations or for giving backgrounds a gentle soft-focus. And it provides a focal length of 24mm to 60 mm (35mm equivalent). From expansive wide-angle shooting to telephoto shots, the crystal-clear rendering and rich gradation of this lens express extremely fine details and nuances.
- 2 - Mega-Pixel CCD
- All Lumix digital cameras have a mega-pixel CCD (charged coupled device) which converts optical data into digital information. It lets you capture crisp, clear images in high resolution, and helps bring out a full range of expressive color and detail.
The newly developed 1/1.63-inch CCD on the DMC-LZ3 helps capture beautiful images with outstanding dynamic range and minimal noise. By optimizing the use of space within individual photocells to allow larger photodiodes, and by purposely keeping pixel resolution at 10.1-megapixel to allow more light to enter each photocell, the CCD has exceptional sensitivity and saturation performance,
- 3 - Mega Burst™ Imaging
- This feature allows you to take consecutive pictures at an incredibly quick rate, perfect for capturing fast-moving objects in high resolution. You can then view your shots on the camera's LCD screen to choose the shot you want and delete the rest.
- 4 - Optical/Digital Zoom
- Most Panasonic Lumix digital cameras are equipped with a 3x optical zoom, capable of producing close-ups with amazing detail. There is even a 3x or 4x variable digital zoom*, which, combined with the optical zoom, digitally magnifies images up to nine times their normal size.
- 5 - Built-in Flash
- The built-in flash has an automatic setting, perfect for indoor use or in dim lighting, as well as a variety of manual settings, including "red eye" reduction modes.
- 6 - Built-in SD Card Slot
- SD Memory Cards combine high storage capacity, rapid data transfer, and flexibility -- all in a card no larger than a postage stamp. Panasonic Lumix™ cameras feature a built-in SD card slot, which lets you record digital images onto an SD memory card (included) or a MultiMediaCard™ (optional), and then transfer them to a PC*.
- 7 - USB 2.0 Full Speed Computer Interface
- Panasonic Lumix cameras supports the USB 2.0 high-speed standard. In comparison with conventional full-speed data transfer at 12 Mbps, USB 2.0 high-speed transfers data at soeeds up to 480 Mbps. This is a highly practical speed for sending high-volume image data from the camera to a PC for viewing or storage.
- 8 - Motion Image Recording with Audio
- Using the QuickTime® Motion JPEG format, Panasonic Lumix digital cameras can record moving images with audio at a resolution of 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 pixels. All these Lumix models can record unlimited clips up to the capacity of the memory card.
Select models can record motion images in high-definition (QuickTime Motion JPEG 1280 x 720 pixels). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-image recording even in low-light settings. When viewing, these high-resolution 16:9 motion images will provide a remarkable effect on your large-screen TV*.
The demand for digital cameras that can record higher-quality movie has grown in step with the trend toward larger HDTV screens and new technologies of movie recording. Now, in addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-FZ35 can record high-definition motion picture in AVCHD Lite. It features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. The FZ35 also features Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator to record high quality audio, so you can match the beautiful motion images with outstanding stereo sound.
- 9 - Built-in Microphone
- The microphone allows you to record audio when using the motion and still image recording features.
- 10 - Exposure Compensation and AE Auto Bracketing
- Depending on the subject's degree of reflectance or lighting condition, AE photography can easily produce exposures that are either over or under the optimum. To compensate for this type of error, plus or minus compensation can be added to correct the exposure, which is called exposure compensation. Auto Bracketing automatically takes multiple pictures with a single press of the shutter, each using a different exposure. (Usually average, over and under exposed) This reduces the chance of an incorrect exposure. After shooting, you can look at the results and keep the best shot.
- 11 - Venus Engine HD II, Venus Engine HD or Venus Engine IV LSI
- Conventional LSI systems generate a luminance signal using only the green component of the image captured by the primary color CCD. Panasonic's Venus Engine LSI improves on this by generating a signal from all three color components -- red, green and blue. This advanced LSI improves diagonal resolution by about 50% compared with previous Lumix models. The LSI also handles image processing, LCD display, and even writing data to the memory card in paralell, as soon as the CCD captures the image signal. This gives the camera a considerably quick response.
In models equipped with the Venus Engine IV, the motion detection in the Intelligent ISO Control function has been further enhanced to suppress motion blur even more effectively. All Lumix cameras feature an advanced noise reduction system detects chromatic noise and luminance noise separately. In addition, the Venus Engine IV enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. Together, they let you capture crisp, high-resolution images with minimal graininess even when shooting at a high ISO setting.
The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to support the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. With its twin CPUs, Venus Engine HD boasts approximately 2.4x processing speed, greatly improving the speed of camera operations. This high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera by introducing new circuitry making it possible to "recognize" human faces individually. It also supports high definition output through HDMI.
The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to compile the new image processing technology "Intelligent Resolution". It enables the recording of beautiful photo and high-definition movie with higher quality signal processing. The Venus Engine HD II also supports the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite with its higher processing speed using twin CPUs. An advanced noise reduction system in the Venus Engine HD II applies noise reduction (NR) to luminance noise and chromatic noise separately. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution for beautiful night shots or dimly lit indoor shots.
The Venus Engine V image-processing engine uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. Venus Engine V, with even greater accurate detection system, makes it possible to detect specific person's face in new Face Recognition function. Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine V reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.
- 12 - MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer
- Select models feature an optical image stabilizer (O.I.S.) in which a gyrosensor detects even tiny amounts of hand motion and integrally links the lens control to camera movement. Unlike digital systems and their "pseudo" compensation, this optical system provides precise, accurate compensation with no image quality degradation. Panasonic's Mega O.I.S. reflects technology Panasonic has developed over the years as a leader in digital video cameras. Compensation has been further improved to support the sharp, vivid image rendering of the Leica DC lens. As a result, these cameras deliver crisp, clear, sharp images even when taking handheld telephoto shots or shooting at night.
The new POWER O.I.S. (DMC-FZ35) nearly doubles the hand-shake correction power of conventional MEGA O.I.S. Panasonic has worked on the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. You get bright photos without blurring even from handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds. POWER O.I.S. is extremely effective for high-power zoom shots, and clearly captures subjects in the ultra-telephoto range, which used to require a tripod.
- 13 - Image Quality Adjustments
- Choose the picture tone to match your creative vision: Natural, Standard, Vivid. Select Lumix cameras offer you fine control over Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation and Noise Reduction.
- 14 - Color Effect Mode / Color Mode / Film Mode
- Alter the coloring effect to suit your taste. Available color effects include Warm, Cool, Sepia and Black & White. Select models offer Standard, Vivid, Cool, Warm, Natural, Black & White and Sepia Color Modes.
Film Mode to Give Photos Special Expression (DMC-LZ3) - Much like changing the film type in a film camera, you can enjoy a wide range of expression based on six color modes and three monochromatic modes. When the multi-film mode is selected, you can record pictures having up to three different effects with each press of the shutter button.
- 15 - ISO Sensitivity Settings
- Adjust light-receiving sensitivity just like with a film camera.
- 16 - Intelligent ISO Control (IIC)
- The revolutionary Intelligent ISO Control (IIC) feature on Panasonic's LUMIX cameras signals the arrival of a new level of photographic excellence. IIC allows high sensitivity recording at full resolution (800 ISO maximum) made possible by the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine III. When set to the IIC, the Venus Engine III detects the subject's movement and adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and the light condition automatically.
- 17 - White Balance Settings
- Set Color tones to match the light source: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Halogen and White Set. Select models add a sixth setting for Flash and a second White Set mode.
- 18 - AF Assist Lamp
- Provides extra lighting as a focusing aid for slightly dark situations where AF focusing would ordinarily be difficult.
- 19 - Composition Guide Lines
- Displayed in the viewfinder and LCD, these thin horizontal and vertical lines make it easy for you to compose your shots or to hold the cameral level.
- 20 - Face Recognition
- Select models feature Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt you to register the face. Once completed, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for the person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to six people's faces can be registered, and up to three can be simultaneously recognized to show their names once registered. Three face images can be registered for each person, to dramatically raise the detection accuracy. And when the angle of view is changed horizontally, the name display also rotates for easier reading.
- 21 - Built-In Memory
- Take photos even when you don't have an SD Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to 14MB* of image data, which you can later upload to an SD Memory Card or PC. You can also download images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.
