Olympus, creator of the Stylus® SW series -- the toughest compact digital cameras on the planet -- innovates again with a whole new way for photographers to take control and tap into worry-free fun: Tap Control. While other digital cameras may use touch screens to access settings, the Stylus 1050 SW has a shockproof, waterproof and freezeproof body that is sensitive to touch all over. So getting to the most common menu settings in situations where pushing buttons takes time or is difficult is now as fast and easy as a tap on the top, back or sides of the camera.
The rugged 10.1-megapixel Stylus 1050 SW is designed to take the hard knocks that everyday life -- particularly those with kids -- can throw its way, so you know that the memories it captures will be protected. It can handle five-foot drops to the hard ground, operate in freezing snowstorms, and swim with the fishes -- lethal conditions for most other digital cameras. Additionally, the Stylus 1050 SW weathers the elements in style with four trendy colors (blue, champagne, silver and black) and a new streamlined body. The sleek, lens-protecting faceplate slides down, turning the camera on and revealing the lens in an instant to capture the moment.

- Waterproof to 10 Feet
- By combining a light-weight, aluminum exterior with rubber gaskets and O-rings to seal the interior from the elements, Olympus delivers a slim body design that performs as well under water as it does on land. It can take photos while being fully submerged to depths of approximately 10 feet (3 meters). The inclusion of a preset underwater scene mode makes the Stylus 1050 SW perfect for snorkeling or a day in the pool. The Stylus 1050 SW also features a water-repellant lens coating to prevent water droplets from forming on the lens so you get crystal-clear shots no matter how wet the shooting environment.
- Shock Proof from 5 Feet
- Accidents happen -- but don't worry. The Stylus 1050SW is designed to withstand a 5-foot drop, bump or other mishap. Built with durable materials and shock-absorption technology that minimizes the impact delivered to the lens and circuitry when dropped, the Stylus 850 SW offers superior durability in a point-and-shoot digital camera.
- Freezeproof to 14 Degrees Fahrenheit
- Harsh winter weather doesn't stop outdoor enthusiasts, athletes and sports fans. Don't let it stop you from capturing memorable moments. Perfect for skiing, snowboarding, sledding and other winter fun, the Stylus 1050 SW is winterized to perform at temperatures even below freezing (14°F / -10°C).
- Tap Control
- The Stylus 1050 SW camera can be controlled with a simple tap on its top, back or sides, which is made possible thanks to the new camera's 3D accelerometer that detects the direction of the force on the camera's body. For example, to turn on the flash or Shadow Adjustment Technology, tap the camera's side twice. In adverse climates, where the Stylus 1050 SW thrives, the new Tap Control ensures fast results -- so you get the shot -- even if you are adjusting settings while fighting frostbite with large gloves that would make traditional buttons nearly impossible to maneuver.
- 2.7" HyperCrystal™ II LCD
- More fun in the sun. Now you can easily compose, view and share your images indoors and outdoors, even in direct sunlight. The Stylus 1050 SW boasts a large, high-resolution HyperCrystal™ II LCD, which enables clear, high-contrast images. It increases the brightness of the LCD for better visibility in low-light and bright-light situations -- perfect for composing subjects underwater or in direct sunlight. The Stylus 1050 SW -- the flagship of the SW line -- boasts an advanced HyperCrystal II LCD, which is Olympus' next generation of LCD technology. It reproduces true colors with a dynamic contrast ratio of more than 180 percent and a color reproduction performance of more than 160 percent compared to the original HyperCrystal LCD.
- Shadow Adjustment Technology
- Shooting outdoors in bright daylight can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark shadowed areas and bright sunlight areas -- while the human eye is capable of detecting the nuances between dark and light and all the details in between, image sensors traditionally have not been quite as sensitive. The Stylus 1050 SW addresses this challenge head-on with Shadow Adjustment Technology, which compensates for extreme contrast where the shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail. With this technology, users can preview and capture images that have the same contrast as seen with the naked eye. Combined with Face Detection Auto Focus and Auto Exposure, the Stylus 1050 SW captures smiles in shadows without getting a dark image in difficult lighting such as in backlight situations. The technology can also be turned off for any shooting situation where shadows are a key element of a photograph's drama.
- Face Detection Auto Focus and Auto Exposure
- Face Detection Technology tracks faces within the frame and automatically focuses (Face Detection AF) and optimizes exposure (Face Detection AE) for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures. Even if your subjects are moving, the camera continuously tracks your subjects' faces without having to press the shutter button.
- Smile Shot
- Smile Shot tracks your subject's face to detect a smile and automatically fires off three consecutive shots so you never miss that perfect smile. This feature is great for parents hoping to capture hard-to-predict baby smiles.
- LED Illuminator
- An LED Illuminator works like a mini-flashlight on the front of the camera to enhance focus and exposure for macro shooting -- great for underwater close-ups where light is scarce.
- Designed-to-be-Digital Optics - 3x Optical, 15x Total Seamless Zoom
- Olympus photos are known worldwide for sharp, vibrant image quality. This is achieved through a number of key technologies, such as Olympus' high-refractive-index aspherical lens elements, designed specifically for digital cameras. The lens provides the equivalent of 38 to 114mm focal length in 35mm photography, with 15x combined total zoom (3x optical and 5x digital) to bring the action closer.
- 10.1 Megapixel CCD (Effective)
- The 10.1-megapixel CCD image sensor inside the Stylus 1050 SW delivers high-quality images that are consistently sharp and vivid even in large-format prints -- up to poster sizes as large as 16 x 20 inches.
- Digital Image Stabilization
- The Stylus 1050 SW features Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) for capturing crisp, clear pictures -- free from the blur sometimes caused by camera shake or moving subjects -- with high ISO sensitivity and fast shutter speed.
- Perfect Shot Preview
- The Stylus 1050 SW features a Perfect Shot Preview mode that enables users to view and select various photography effects on the multi-view screen before even snapping the shot. Perfect Shot Preview enables users to see precisely what the image will look like when adjustments are made, ensuring users are capturing the exact image they want. It's an ideal way for novice users to learn about the effects of different photography techniques, such as zoom, exposure compensation, white balance and metering.
- Perfect Fix In-Camera Editing
- The Stylus 1050 SW offers Red-Eye Fix and Shadow Adjustment Edit, in-camera editing features such as resizing, frames, text options, and saturation adjustments, enabling users to edit photos right in the camera. With the Perfect Fix function, multiple editing features can be applied at once.
- TruePic™ III Image Processor
- Olympus' enhanced TruePic III Image Processor produces crystal-clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to deliver superior picture quality with more accurate colors, true-to-life flesh tones and faster processing speeds. TruePic III also captures sharp images at high ISO settings, which are traditionally associated with increasing image noise or producing grainy photos.
- 27 Selectable Shooting Modes Including Scene Preset Modes
- With 23 pre-programmed scene modes, such as Beach & Snow, Available Light Portrait, Sunset and Under Water Snapshot, the Stylus 1050 SW makes it easy to capture beautiful images in a variety of lighting and shooting situations. Get the best result in any situation with advanced options -- landscape, portrait, indoor, sunset and more.
- xD-Picture Card™ Compatibility
- Olympus and Fujifilm jointly developed the xD-Picture Card, a new type of memory media with an ultra-compact design about the size of a postage stamp, image storage capacity of up to 8 gigabytes, compatibility with different digital camera brands, and prices that are comparable to current SmartMedia™ cards. The name of the new xD-Picture Card was inspired by the words "eXtreme digital" to signify the excellence of this new memory media for recording, storing, and transporting audio-visual information.
Camera users concerned with compatibility of digital media between different brands of digital cameras will appreciate the xD-Picture Card's versatility. With a CompactFlash adapter the xD-Picture Card can be used with any CompactFlash compatible device for even more possibilities. A USB Reader/Writer provides easy computer connectivity, and a PCMCIA PC Card adapter for laptops and other devices ensures the easy downloading of data.
Although similar in some ways to all flash media, xD-Picture Cards are designed for increased durability and reliability despite their size. The small size of the card allows the design of even smaller, more stylish and powerful digital cameras.
- microSD Memory Card Compatible
- All Olympus digital point-and-shoot cameras accept xD-Picture Card media. The Stylus 1050 SW also comes equipped with an adapter which will enable microSD memory cards to be used when capturing images. The microSD cards are emerging in consumer electronic devices, including mobile phones and PDAs. Users can also easily display photos on their HDTVs.
- 41.6MB Available Built-in Internal Memory
- You can capture images even when no media card is in the camera.
- AVI Movies with Audio
- With its Movie Mode, the Stylus 1050 SW can also record VGA-quality (640 x 480 / 30fps) AVI videos with sound, limited only by the size of the internal memory or memory Card in the camera.
- PictBridge Enabled
- The power of PictBridge™ technology enables your photos to be printed directly from the Stylus 1050 SW to any PictBridge-enabled printer without using a computer. And the one-touch 'Print' button makes printing a single-step process. Printing and sharing images has never been easier.
- Built-in Multi-Mode Flash
- The Stylus 1050 SW camera has a built-in flash that offers settings to provide a wide range of options.
- Auto Flash fires automatically in low light or back-light, to help ensure the illumination is appropriate.
- Red-Eye Reduction Flash Mode emits a series of pre-flashes right before the shutter snaps, allowing the subject's eyes to adjust to the light level of the flash -- reducing the red-eye effect.
- Fill-In Flash Mode (forced on) adds light to eliminate shadows, for a more natural look in photos when your subject is in both bright light and dark shadow.
- Flash Off Mode is available when flash photography is not permitted or to allow for long exposures for shots like sunsets and night scenes.
- Auto-Connect USB 2.0 High Speed
- Transferring images to the computer has never been easier with the Auto-Connect USB 2.0 that does not require software drivers (for most computers/operating systems) for hassle-free and high-speed image downloads.
- In-Camera Panorama Mode
- In-camera panorama mode captures three images and stitches them together to create one amazing panoramic picture. Simply press the shutter button and slowly pan across a panoramic scene. The second and third images will be captured automatically and stitched together with the first image -- resulting in one seamless panorama-size picture. To create the ultimate panoramic picture, consumers can use the Olympus Master Software 2 to stitch up to 10 images together.
- Digital ESP Multi-Pattern and Spot Metering
- Multi-Point Metering enables up to 8 separate points in the image area to be averaged for proper exposures in the most difficult lighting conditions.
- Olympus Master™ 2 Software
- Olympus Master™ 2 Software provides the ultimate in digital imaging management. An intuitive user interface makes downloading to your computer quick and simple, and images are easily organized by folders or albums and searchable by date in Calendar view. Additionally, with one-click editing tools, such as red-eye removal, images can be touched up before printing or e-mailing. Online support, templates, firmware upgrades and other user services are just a mouse-click away. Use the optional muvee™ Theater Pack to create professional quality slide shows and DVDs from your pictures using any of several built-in templates.
