The EVOLT E-510's 10-megapixel Live MOS Image Sensor delivers super high-resolution images that can be cropped or blown up to poster size without sacrificing image quality. Its Mechanical Image Stabilization with Supersonic Wave Drive™ technology provides blur-free images across all of the more than 30 digital-specific Olympus Zuiko lenses.

The Olympus EVOLT E-510 also features a Dust Reduction System for spot-free photos, so users can spend more time taking pictures and less time removing unsightly specks from digital images with computer editing software. Its extremely portable, lightweight body with an ergonomic grip ensures the camera fits snugly in the hand. Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses
All-Digital Interchangeable Zuiko® Lenses
Most other digital SLR cameras use traditional 35mm film lenses on digital bodies. But since those lenses are based on designs from the beginning of the last century for film and not for pixels, they deliver insufficient light at the edges of a digital camera's image sensor. This can result in reduced sharpness and color definition, particularly when shooting with wide-angle lenses.

The EVOLT E-510 does not have this problem, because it is fully compatible with the largest selection of world-class optics -- precision-crafted digital-specific Zuiko lenses -- designed specifically for digital excellence. With each pristine-glass lens perfectly matched to the camera's image sensor, light is received by each pixel. So you'll see crisper, more accurate results all across your photographs. To correct potential distortions automatically, these Zuiko lenses directly communicate with the camera through their own internal CPU. You'll not only enjoy an extra measure of quality and accuracy -- the kind that film lenses simply cannot match -- but you'll appreciate the compact, go-anywhere styling of this versatile line of digital lenses. See for yourself -- with all digital-lenses precisely matched to the EVOLT E-510's image sensor, your photos will have the same degree of clarity, brightness and detail at their edges as they do in the center.

Olympus dedicated digital optics paired with the 100% digital EVOLT E-510 render sharpness and contrast more consistently at any given f-stop. The lenses are matched to the Four Thirds System standard image sensor for the optimal balance between image quality, camera and lens size, and expandability. With an array of digital specific lenses to choose from that are smaller and lighter than comparable 35mm film lenses, it's easy to select the ideal instruments to bring along when you don't want to lug a lot of heavy, bulky gear.

The EVOLT E-510 One Lens Kit includes a compact, Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f3.5-f5.6 Lens (equivalent to 28mm-84mm in 35mm photography) that perfectly matches the imager so light strikes the sensor directly to ensure rich, accurate colors and edge-to-edge sharpness. Its 3x wide-angle zoom covers the range most frequently used in ordinary photography and it weighs just 6.7 ounces, offering users an extremely dynamic, portable everyday-use zoom. Close-ups as near as 9.84 inches are possible throughout the zoom range.

The EVOLT E-510 Two Lens Kit also includes the ED 14-42mm Zuiko Digital lens, along with the ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 Zuiko Digital lens. A 3.8x telephoto zoom lens that's small enough to hand-hold, the ED 40-150mm Zuiko Digital Zoom lens provides the power of an 80-300mm lens in 35mm photography, at a fraction of the size (7.8 ounces). The Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm lens is a very powerful yet compact lens that realizes all of the advantages of the Four Thirds system. It delivers outstanding results in all areas of performance: size, weight, speed and optical fidelity. Its powerful zoom make it the ideal supplement to the ED 14-42mm Zuiko Digital lens.

Patented Dust Reduction Technology for Spot-Free Photos
Have you ever looked inside a camera? The amount of dust collected would startle you. That's because -- prior to the E-series -- dust entered from daily use, especially when lenses were changed. The result was a spot or two on each photo, cast by "dust shadows" from the imager's pixels. It was unavoidable and unsightly, until now.

Olympus' exclusive dust-reduction technology brings you spot-free photos, automatically. Each time the camera is turned on, the Super Sonic Wave Filter™ shakes up the digital world as we know it, by shaking dust and debris loose from the image sensor -- and capturing it, to prevent its reappearance. Situated between shutter and CCD, it vibrates over 35,000 times a second. As a result, dust particles cannot block light -- ensuring unblemished pictures, with each press of the shutter button.

With the E-510's Dust Reduction System, changing lenses in the field (or in your family room) won't ruin your images. Your photos will be spot-free, without you needing to retouch them on a computer.

10 Megapixel Live MOS Image Sensor
The E-510 is loaded with an impressive 10 million pixels for high-resolution photos. The 10-megapixel sensor gives photographers the flexibility to blow up their prints to the large sizes supported by many of today's printers, or crop the image to print only a part of the image that is important to them. The high-performance Live MOS image sensor in the E-510 delivers excellent dynamic range for accurate color fidelity, and a new state-of-the-art amplifier circuit to eradicate noise and capture fine image details in the highlight and shadow areas.
Olympus EVOLT E-510 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD Monitor
Mechanical Image Stabilization
Unlike other digital SLR cameras in its class, the E-510 employs Mechanical Image Stabilization, which compensates for camera movement. This new technology complements Digital Image Stabilization, which compensates for a moving subject. Combined, Mechanical Image Stabilization and Digital Image Stabilization provide a powerful solution, ensuring blur-free photos even in active shooting situations where photographers may encounter camera shake or a moving subject. This powerful combination resides within the camera's body, translating to blur-free images taken with any of the more than 30 digital-specific lenses.
2.5" Full Time Live View HyperCrystal™ LCD Monitor
The E-510 features a Live View LCD to provide users with the freedom to choose how they compose their shots, using either the LCD or the optical viewfinder on the back of the camera. The Olympus Live View LCD empowers users to easily compose their subjects live on the LCD before the shot has been taken, offering a level of versatility that can not be achieved by other digital SLR cameras that only offer an optical viewfinder. By holding the E-510 away from the face and using the Live View LCD to compose, it's possible to shoot upward from a low angle for dramatic composition, in close for detailed macro photos of a butterfly's wings or photographing a parade over a crowd of people.

The E-510's big and bright 2.5-inch LCD display with approximately 230,000 pixels includes HyperCrystal technology, which offers many times the contrast of conventional LCD monitors, and enables images to be beautifully displayed in vivid color -- both in preview and playback. The HyperCrystal LCD also provides a wide viewing angle, which ensures images can be composed from even the most obscure angles. The larger LCD makes viewing icons and text on the camera's menu a squint-free process.

TruePic III™ Image Processor for Clarity and Speed
Olympus' enhanced TruePic III Image Processor produces crystal clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to provide the best digital images possible for every photo with accurate color, true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal representation in between. TruePic III also lowers image noise by one step to reduce noise in images shot at higher ISO settings, enabling great results in low-light situations.
Olympus EVOLT E-510
Extremely Portable, Lightweight Body
The EVOLT E-510 is extremely portable, measuring 5.35 inches by 3.61 inches and 2.2 inches (56mm), excluding protrusions, and weighing 16.2 ounces (460 grams) body only. The camera has a classic penta-mirror design that is light and compact enough to comfortably shoot with all day. Beyond its portable size, the E-510 delivers unparalleled ease of use -- from menus that make sense and buttons on the body that are easy to understand and operate, to automatic settings for every imaginable situation.
28 Shooting Modes
While the E-510 includes a full range of manual control options to customize your creativity, it also has 28 shooting modes designed to provide the ideal settings for a variety of shooting situations automatically. These include Digital Image Stabilization, Night Scene, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, and Candle Light to name a few, as well as an xD Panorama mode (for use with Olympus xD-Picture Cards). Users also benefit from special color modes and the possibility to apply a variety of Black & White filters.
Dual Memory Card Slots
The EVOLT E-510 features Dual Memory Slots -- one for CompactFlash or Microdrive and another for xD-Picture Cards™ -- which add to the camera's practicality and provide extra data storage. Simply depress a button on the back of the camera to choose which card type to capture to and copy images back and forth from one card to the other in playback. For increased storage flexibility, switch between CF and xD-Picture Cards when one becomes full. Or use the camera's menu to copy an image onto both, for backup purposes.
Olympus EVOLT E-510
5 Metering Modes
The 49-Point Digital ESP Light Meter enables digital electro selective pattern metering for accurate exposures under the largest number of conditions. The Digital ESP can also be linked to the AF (auto focus) selection or independent of the AF selection for even more versatility. Olympus' widely acclaimed proprietary Digital ESP metering calculates the best light values under complex lighting conditions. Center-weighted metering is biased to the center of the viewfinder (cross) area. Spot Meter (1%) enables the most accurate metering for tough lighting conditions like backlit or spot lit. Highlight Spot Meter adjusts for predominantly white subject for correct exposure with detail. Shadow Spot Meter adjusts for a black subject, providing the correct exposure with detail.
Simultaneous RAW and JPEG Image Recording
A choice of two image formats is offered: RAW and JPEG. If desired, image data can be simultaneously recorded in RAW and JPEG with the RAW+JPEG format.
A Choice of Two Color Space Settings
Users can choose from two color space settings according to their needs: sRGB, which is the standard for computer monitor viewing and inkjet printer output, and Adobe® RGB, which is widely used for commercial applications.
High-Precision Flash Control
With six flash modes, you can be highly selective: Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Slow Synchro and Red-Eye Reduction, Slow Synchro, forced flash (fill-in) and flash off. You can even manually adjust flash intensity.
Auto Focus
The E-510 dedicated auto focus system offers 3 selectable AF points for accurate auto focus operation. When automatic target zone selection is active, a superimposed display confirms the relevant target zone. Focus modes are set via a manual switch on the camera body for Single AF, Continuous AF, and Manual Focus operation. To ensure successful focusing in the darkest environments, the E-510 utilizes an AF illuminator built into the flash.
Hot Shoe Fot External TTL and FP Flash
The E-510 has a hot shoe for external flash. Enjoy TTL capabilities with the optional Olympus FL-20, FL-36 and FL-50 flash units. For daylight fill or flash synchronization above 1/180th second -- with available external flashes (FL-36 and FL-50) -- choose FP Flash.
Four Color Modes: Vivid, Natural, Muted, Monotone
Vivid mode produces photos with more highly saturated colors and higher contrast to optimize images when vivid shots are required. This is also the recommended setting when printing directly from the camera to an inkjet printer. The Natural mode produces realistic color similar to those seen by the human eye and is the perfect choice for the discerning photographer looking for the most realistic photos. The Muted mode is ideal for those users who plan to heavily manipulate or edit their images with the included OLYMPUS Master Software or with Adobe® Photoshop™.
9 Black & White Modes
Red, Yellow, Orange, and Green filters can be selected to replicate the same traditional film filters, enhancing the drama of the image in the Black & White shooting mode. In addition to Sepia tone, the EVOLT E-510 also offers users three tone effects: Blue, Green and Purple for special results.
Contrast and Sharpness Controls
Contrast and sharpness can be set to any of five levels. So whether users want pro-quality tonal fidelity or sharp vibrant colors, they can customize each image to suit their preference.
White Balance
Seven preset white balance settings (3000K - 7500K) are available, with ±7-step fine-tuning available in Auto WB and Preset WB mode. A one-touch white balance function allows users to store and retrieve a frequently used white balance setting at the touch of a button.
Noise Reduction
The noise reduction function uses a proprietary Olympus algorithm to detect and eliminate the fixed noise that can appear on long-exposure images.
RGB Histogram Information Display
The EVOLT E-510 will display an individual histogram for each color channel (RGB) as well as the overall luminance of the exposure. This information is valuable to the more advanced user who may need to alter the exposure for specific output sources. A display that identifies overexposed highlights or underexposed shadow areas is also an option in image playback mode.
Self-timer and Remote Control
The built-in self-timer offers a choice of 12-second or 2-second delay. An optional RM-1 remote control unit is available and can be used with the 2-second delay setting or for immediate shutter release, as well as to control "bulb" shutter openings for longer exposures.
