Metz mecablitz 45 CL-4 Digital Flash Unit

Tough professional use calls for maximum flash power and devices you can rely on. Every picture is important, every subject counts. With the ultra-high-performance mecablitz 45 CL-4 handheld flash gun from Metz you now have reliable lighting support during all your digital photo shootings, too. Behind the tried and tested ergonomic design of the Metz 45 CL-4 digital you can find the latest flash technologies for digital cameras: for example, Canon's E-TTL flash mode, i-TTL and D-TTL from Nikon, ADI flash control from Konica/Minolta. Moreover, many more special functions offer creative leeway! The new, high performance Power Pack P 76, which attaches practically to your belt, provides an additional power source.

The Metz mecablitz 45 CL-4 digital offers a guide number of 149 (ft) at ISO 100/21°C and 35mm focal length. When used in combination with the Metz 3002 Series SCA adapter system and connection cable SCA-3045, the 45 CL-4 digital supports the cutting-edge functions of digital cameras from Canon, Nikon and Konica/Minolta. In addition, the universal Metz SCA adapter system creates a decisive advantage: one and the same flash unit can be used with the cameras of a very wide range of established manufacturers! The vertical and horizontal tilt and swivel capability of the 45 CL-4 digital's reflector can be exploited for bounce flash. All settings of the logically structured menu controls can be made directly on the unit, with an extended lock function to prevent accidental adjustments of fixed settings.

TTL Flash Mode With The Metz SCA 300/3002 Adapter System
TTL flash mode is a very simple way to achieve excellent flash shots. You need not worry about setting the flash, the camera's electronic system automatically determines the correct amount of flash light required. Exposure readings are taken by a sensor built into the camera which measures the light reaching the film or imager through the camera lens (TTL). An electronic control circuit within the camera transmits a stop signal to the mecablitz as soon as the correct amount of light has been produced. The obvious advantage of TTL flash mode is that all factors influencing correct exposure (filters, change of aperture and focal length with zoom lenses, extensions for close-ups, etc.) are automatically taken into account.

TTL flash mode is available with cameras supporting this mode. Various flash functions are available when the mecablitz 45 CL-4 is operated with an SCA adapter of the SCA 300 system plus the SCA 300A Adapter Cord.

When used in combination with the Metz 3002 Series SCA adapter system and connection cable SCA-3045 Digital, the 45 CL-4 digital supports the cutting-edge functions of digital cameras from Canon, Nikon and Konica/Minolta. These include Canon's E-TTL flash mode (requires SCA 3045 Digital Module plus SCA 3102 Dedicated Canon Module), i-TTL and D-TTL from Nikon (requires SCA 3045 plus SCA 3402 Dedicated Nikon Module), and ADI flash control from Konica/Minolta (requires SCA 3045 plus SCA 3302 Dedicated Minolta Module).

The availability of the individual flash functions, however, depends on the given camera system (camera manufacturer), the specific camera type and the SCA adapter.

The Metz mecablitz 45 CL-4 digital can only be operated with a PC synch cable (included), or the Metz SCA-300/3002 adapter system (optional) as described above. For simple flash synchronization with all cameras that feature a standard hot shoe, the 45 CL-4 can be fitted with the SCA 301 standard foot plus the SCA 300A Adapter Cord. The shutter speed must be the same or slower than the flash sync speed.

Universal, Swivelling Quadrolight Reflector for Bounced Flash With Automatic Exposure Control
The zoom reflector can be swivelled vertically into six locking positions for bounce flashes: 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°. The zoom reflector can be swivelled horizontally. Horizontal locking positions include: 90° and 180° in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The 45 CL-4 digital provides the soft diffused light of bounced flash without having to forgo the benefits of automatic exposure control. Bounced flash is also available in manual mode.
Secondary Reflector For Additional Fill-in Light When Flash Is Bounced
The secondary reflector can be switched on and off as needed. The secondary reflector produces frontal fill-in light when the flash is bounced. Activation of the secondary reflector assigns approximately 85% of the emitted light to the main reflector and 15% to the secondary reflector (these percentage values can differ somewhat when shooting with partial light output and the secondary reflector). The light output of the secondary reflector can be reduced by approximately 40% with a light-reducing filter (included) if it is too bright.
Winder Mode
The 45 CL-4 digital's winder mode involves shooting a sequence of pictures using partial light output levels (M 1/40). Up to 2 flashes per second can be fired in this mode.
Auto-Check Display
The auto-check signal o.k. lights up only when the frame will be, or was, correctly exposed in auto mode. In this manner it is possible to manually fire a test flash while in auto mode so that the correct aperture can be established beforehand. This is particularly valuable with bounced (indirect)flash when reflection conditions are difficult to judge.
Included Wide-Angle Diffusor
The wide-angle diffusor widens the horizontal lighting angle from 62° to 65°, and the vertical lighting angle from 42° to 60°. The wide-angle diffusor is intended for use with focal lengths of less than 35mm (35mm format).
Six Telecomputer Automatic Apertures
Automatic exposure control with a selection of 6 working apertures help easily resolve the problems associated with depth-of-field and offer greater creative scope. Avaialable apertures at ISO 100/21°C include f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11 and f/16.
Power-Saving Thyristor Light Output Control
Power-saving thyristor light output control, particularly in the close-up range, for shorter recycle times and a higher number of flashes from each battery charge.
Fill-in Flash Control
The mecablitz can also be used for fill-in flash in daylight to soften harsh shadows and diminish the contrast, thereby producing a more balanced exposure when shooting against the light (contre-jour). Various possibilities are open to the user for fill-in flash, including TTL and automatic modes.
